MUYIWA AKINDAYOMI
Fisrt Grandson Speaks
Baba was a strict disciplinarian!
At 2½ years old, Muyiwa Akindayomi began living with his grandpa, now late Rev. Josiah Akindayomi (whose picture is here displayed). Currently an altar minister and Deacon in the Praise and Power parish of RCCG Lagos Province 8, Muyiwa agrees with his aunt, Mrs. Dorcas Akindele, wife of A.G.O. Pastor J.A.O. Akindele, that Baba was very strict. He added…
Love for grandchildren
Toyin Akindele and I lived with Baba until he took ill. He took me to school, and never forgot my birthday (8 th August) that always fell on the Annual Convention. He would instruct (now Pastor) Mulero (his driver) to bring me for the Adult Thanksgiving. Baba would pray for me anytime I had headache because he did not believe in drugs.
Lessons from Baba
Baba was very clever. We don't know where he got his wisdom. He trained us not to depend on anybody. Baba was strong and very determined. He made us keep money given to us by visitors in a piggy bank. I was eleven years old, when Baba died, a time I believe that I should just begin to appreciate him. I learnt a lot from Baba. I don't get tired easily. We got to Workers meeting at 5:30am before it was shifted to 7am.
Baba was stickler for time
His driver must be on time. If we got into a hold-up which was very common in Yaba in those days, Baba would get down from the car, and trek to the office while the driver took me to school.
Personal habits
Baba was full of action, and neat. He was an incurable giver. You must eat before you leave our house. Baba loved dogs, and would beat you failed to feed them on time. You were responsible for the safekeeping of the cane Baba used to whip you. Baba only beat you on your palms, not buttocks or anywhere else.
When Baba became sick
When Baba fell ill, he asked my father, a military officer to come and take me to live with him, and know him. I left Baba in 1979, and he died in 1980. I think he saw that the end was near.
